A roll goes a long way. If you are new to sewing, or you just want quick wins, these six projects use straight seams and very little shaping. Start with the one you will actually use.
1. A cushion cover
Two squares, one opening, done in an evening. About 0.5 m. A bold print does all the work.
2. An apron
A bib, a skirt and two ties. About 1 to 1.2 m. Cotton and linen both hold up well to washing.
3. A set of tea towels
Hemmed rectangles, about 0.5 m each. The ideal first project: make four and you have a gift.
4. Scrunchies
A long tube, a bit of elastic, a hand-stitched gap. A set of three needs about 0.3 m, so scraps from other projects are enough.
5. A zip pouch
Two rectangles, a zip and a lining. A good first step into zips, and handy for pencils, make-up or travel odds and ends.
6. A table runner
One long hemmed strip, about 1.5 m. It dresses a plain table and shows off a print you love.
One roll, several projects
Because every roll is sold whole and listed with its exact length, you can plan several of these from one roll. Our guide How much fabric do I need? has rough metre counts for each project.
